A 4:00 AM flight is the hardest wake-up there is
Waking at 12:45 AM puts your alarm in the deepest, coldest part of the night — the hours when your body temperature bottoms out and your brain is least able to make decisions. This is the single most common way people miss flights: the alarm goes off, a hand reaches out and silences it, and the next conscious thought happens an hour later. It is not laziness; dismissing an alarm is a motor reflex that does not require you to be awake. The only reliable fix is removing the easy off switch.
Lay everything out the night before: bag packed, clothes ready, documents in one place. Mornings this early cannot afford decisions.

How this is calculated
| Step | Time | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your flight leaves | 4:00 AM | The fixed point everything else counts back from. |
| Arrive at the airport | 2:00 AM | Airlines want you there 2 h ahead for this flight type, so check-in and bag drop are still open. |
| Leave home | 1:30 AM | Your 30 min of travel time — traffic and parking at 4 AM are kinder, but the train may not be running yet. |
| Wake up | 12:45 AM | The 45 min you need to shower, dress, eat and find your passport without panicking. |
The alarm is the part that fails
Almost nobody misses a flight because they misjudged the traffic. They miss it because the alarm did its job and the person did not. In the first minutes after waking, the rational part of your brain is still offline — swiping an alarm away is a reflex you can perform while asleep, and afterwards you genuinely do not remember doing it. An alarm that only stops when you complete a real task — walk to the bathroom and scan a code, do the squats, solve the maths — forces you awake before your hand can cancel it.
