Work backwards from departure: arrive 2 hours early for a domestic flight and 3 for an international one at a big airport, then subtract your travel time and how long you need to get ready. For a 6:00 AM flight that usually means leaving home around 3:30 AM and waking up at 2:45 AM.
Pick your airport and departure time. The calculator works backwards through check-in, security and the drive, and gives you the one number that actually decides whether you make the flight: your wake-up time.
Airlines want you there 2 h ahead for this flight type, so check-in and bag drop are still open.
Leave home
3:30 AM
Your 30 min of travel time — traffic and parking at 4 AM are kinder, but the train may not be running yet.
Wake up
2:45 AM
The 45 min you need to shower, dress, eat and find your passport without panicking.
The alarm is the weakest link
Almost nobody misses a flight because the drive took too long. They miss it because a 2:45 AM alarm went off in the deepest part of the night and a hand that was still asleep swiped it away. At that hour your rational brain is offline for several minutes after waking — dismissing an alarm is a reflex, not a decision. That is why people wake up an hour later with no memory of turning anything off.
A 2:45 AM alarm is exactly the kind people sleep through.Captain Wake keeps ringing until you finish a real mission — a photo, a scan, squats, math. No snooze, no swipe-and-sleep.
Take your departure time, subtract the recommended arrival window (2 hours domestic, 3 international at a major hub; 90 minutes and 2.5 hours at a regional airport), then subtract your travel time. The calculator on this page does it for you and adds the wake-up time on top.
What time should I leave for a 6 AM flight?
For a domestic 6 AM departure from a large airport: be there by 4:00, leave home about 3:30 with a 30-minute journey, and wake up around 2:45. International the same morning means arriving by 3:00 and waking up at about 1:45.
Is 2 hours enough for an international flight?
Usually not at a big hub. Passport control, longer security queues and earlier bag-drop cut-offs are why 3 hours is the standard advice, and most airlines close international check-in 60 minutes before departure. Two hours can work at a small airport with hand luggage only.
How do I make sure I actually wake up?
Set the wake-up time this calculator gives you, go to bed accordingly, and use an alarm that requires something real to switch off. Captain Wake only stops when you complete a mission — walking to another room to scan a code, or solving a problem — so your brain is awake before your hand can cancel it.
Why people use Captain Wake to wake up on time
Not because it rings louder. Because it removes every way your half-asleep brain talks you back into bed.
1
There is no button to tap
Swiping an alarm away is a reflex you can perform while still asleep. A mission needs your thinking brain switched on — and once it is on, sinking back under is much harder.
2
It survives every trick
Force-quit the app, restart the phone, flip it to silent, turn the volume down. The alarm re-arms and keeps going until the mission is actually done.
3
It gets you physically upright
Photo and barcode missions are anchored to a spot in another room, so the only way to stop the noise is to stand up and walk there. You cannot pre-stage it from bed.
4
It fixes the night, not just the morning
A sleep forecast before bed, bedtime reminders and wake-up streaks — because the 6 AM problem usually starts at 1 AM.
Never miss an early flight again.
Captain Wake is the alarm you can't sleep through. Set it for your wake-up time and it will not let you negotiate.
