A 11:00 PM departure means a night you barely sleep
Departing at 11:00 PM means you are at the airport in the middle of the night, and the sleep you get before it is short, fragmented and usually worse than none at all. Most people try to nap first and then panic that they will not hear the alarm — which is exactly what happens, because a short nap ends in deep sleep and a hand can dismiss an alarm without waking you. If you sleep at all before a red-eye, use an alarm that cannot be turned off from the bed, and treat the flight itself as the place you sleep.
Sleep on the plane, not before it. Set the alarm anyway, and put the phone across the room.

How this is calculated
| Step | Time | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your flight leaves | 11:00 PM | The fixed point everything else counts back from. |
| Arrive at the airport | 9:00 PM | Airlines want you there 2 h ahead for this flight type, so check-in and bag drop are still open. |
| Leave home | 8:30 PM | Your 30 min of travel time — traffic and parking at 4 AM are kinder, but the train may not be running yet. |
| Wake up | 7:45 PM | The 45 min you need to shower, dress, eat and find your passport without panicking. |
The alarm is the part that fails
Almost nobody misses a flight because they misjudged the traffic. They miss it because the alarm did its job and the person did not. In the first minutes after waking, the rational part of your brain is still offline — swiping an alarm away is a reflex you can perform while asleep, and afterwards you genuinely do not remember doing it. An alarm that only stops when you complete a real task — walk to the bathroom and scan a code, do the squats, solve the maths — forces you awake before your hand can cancel it.
